We offer DAN training courses though our Instructors based here in Essex at Essex School of Diving SCUBA. We can teach and guide you through as a DFR (Diver First Responder) or alternatively you can select anyone of the four separate modules listed below (O2 Provider, Advanced O2 Provider, AED or HMLI) and learn these as separate courses within their own right to suite your own training preferences.

What is DFR?
DFR Stands for Diver First Responder meaning this person is skilled in Oxygen Use, Advanced Oxygen Use, Hazardous Marine Life Injuries, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use.
DAN O2 (Oxygen) Provider
The Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course represents entry-level training to educate the general diving (and qualified non-diving) public to better recognise possible dive-related injuries and to provide emergency oxygen first aid while activating the local emergency medical services (EMS) and / or arranging for evacuation to the nearest available medical facility. The prerequisites are a minimum age of 12, and current CPR training from a recognized agency, such as the SDI CPR1ST course or the PADI EFR course. This can be provided for you at additional cost. AN Advanced O2 (Oxygen) Provider.
DAN Advanced O2 (Oxygen) Provider
The Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course is an training program for those individuals who have successfully completed the DAN Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries course within the past year (12 months). It is designed to train Oxygen Providers to use a positive pressure valve (as the MTV100) and/or a bag-valve-mask (BVM); depending on local legal laws and regulations.
DAN HMLI (Hazardous Marine Life Injury)
The First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries course represents entry-level training designed to educate the general diving (and qualified non-diving) public to identify hazardous marine life, to recognise possible injuries caused by hazardous marine life, to provide first aid for hazardous marine life injuries and to avoid hazardous marine life injuries.
DAN AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
The Automated External Defibrillator course (AED) for Scuba Diving represents entry level training designed to educate the general diving (and qualified non-diving) public to better recognise the warning signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and administer first aid using Basic Life Support techniques and an Automated External Defibrillator while activating the local emergency medical services, (EMS) and / or arranging for evacuation to the nearest appropriate medical facility.

Each of these Diver Alert Network training courses has its own merits and can be taught to both Divers and Non-Divers alike. The importance of diver first aid is an essential safety aspect of diving.
