PADI Open Water Diver Course in Colchester, Essex

PADI Open Water Course

PADI Open Water Course with Essex School of Diving in Colchester, Essex.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the entry level to scuba diving and will give you your PADI Open Water Diver Certification. This course is the world's most popular scuba diving course and has introduced millions of people to scuba diving over the years.

Course Prerequisites: You need to be at least 10 years old, in reasonable health and capable of swimming 200 meters at a relaxed pace. You will also need to complete some PADI paperwork found on our PADI Diving Course page.

Almost anyone can learn to scuba dive, it is that easy. The PADI Open Water Diver course is divided in to two parts, which are generally referred to as:

  • Confined Water Course.
  • Open Water Qualifying.

Once you have completed both parts of the course you will be awarded your PADI Open Water Diver Certification.

This Diving certification level will allow you to scuba dive anywhere in the world subject to local rules. Scuba Diving is a fantastic way to meet people, have some terrific fun at home or whilst on holiday and of course, explore the beautiful underwater world and marine life. See our Photo Gallery.

Part 1. The Confined Water Course

Our Confined Water Course consists of 4/5 classroom and pool based sessions where you will develop your understanding of diving theory and learn to master essential diving skills based on the PADI knowledge development program.

Aided with an explanatory DVD and PADI crew pack along with our instructor led sessions, you will gain confidence and be well prepared to complete the 2nd part of your PADI open water diver course.

Our confined water training sessions take place on Saturday evenings at Leisure World in Colchester, Essex, commencing 17:45 hours lasting approximately 2.5 hours.

If time is short, you may also consider our Express Holiday Referral course. Click Here for more details.

All Theory material and Diving equipment is included in our prices. There are no hidden extras in our courses!

Following your Confined Water Course, we will update your log book. You then have a choice to make? You can either:

  • Continue your open water training with us to receive your full PADI Open Water Diver certification or alternatively:
  • Receive a Referral certificate to take on holiday with you to a dive centre of your choice for completion of your PADI Open Water Diver course.
The big advantage of completing your Confined Water Course with Essex School of Diving in the UK is that it saves you valuable holiday time and gives you more diving and leisure time when away.

Part 2. Open Water Qualifying

Part 2. of the PADI Open Water Diver course is where you qualify to become a Certified Scuba Diver. You will need to complete 4 (four) open water dives over two days at one of our UK diving sites, replicating most of the skills you were taught in the confined water course section. You will be fully briefed and guided by our instructors at all times on each dive to ensure your safety, enjoyment and comfort throughout the course until you achieve your Open Water Diver certification.

Please note that we include all the diving equipment, air and certification required to complete the course, however, we do not include dive site entry fees, travel or accommodation costs.

Whilst every effort is made to supply you with an exposure suit from our large stock, there maybe an odd occasion where our suits may not fit. In this exception, you will be required to hire or provide your own suit.

After completing the course you may not dive for a while (6 months or more), in this case we recommend you take a Scuba Review to refresh your skills before going diving again. Click Here for details.
